It's Mother's Day
(Mar 2001)

It's Mother's Day - so what?
I'll send a card and a cheap bouquet
And I'll make a very quick phone call
To check that she's okay.
Of course I'm hypocritical
Now the actual day is here,
But I'm sure she won't remember
I've ignored her all the year.
I didn't ask to be her son
She just took it upon herself
So perhaps I'll forget the card and flowers
And leave them on the shelf.
But I suppose I'd better see her
Rather than send a letter
And anyway I've just hurt myself
And need her to kiss it better.
